What to Do When a Death Occurs

  • Notify Authorities

    The place where a person dies will determine your immediate steps. 


    • Healthcare facility (e.g. hospital, nursing home): Staff will notify authorities
    • Hospice: Contact your hospice nurse, who will fill out the necessary forms
    • Workplace, home, or another location: Dial 911 and speak to the police department and/or emergency services.
