Woodbury I. Tompkins age 84, loving and devoted husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Schuble) Tompkins, died on December 27, 2012, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, following injuries he sustained as a pedestrian on North St, Salem.

Born in Beverly, the son of the late Woodbury G. and Dorothea (Burkinshaw) Tompkins, he was raised and educated in local Beverly schools. Following his graduation from high school, Mr. Tompkins joined the United States Army Infantry and proudly served the Country during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he became employed at Sylvania Lighting in Danvers on the assembly line until his retirement after 38 years of service.

An avid sports fan he was a dedicated Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots fan. Family was always at the center of his life, and he enjoyed visiting his sister, Karen and his nephew, Peter.

Surviving him in addition to his loving wife Betty are his daughter Joi Tompkins of Swampscott and her companion William Wozny of Lynn; his sister Karen "Kay" Hancock of Salem and Nancy Welch of West Newbury and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters June Keck, Jacqueline Tompkins and Beverly Klock.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (corner of North St) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
