Winifred "Winnie" Ethel Condon, aged 93, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 25, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. Winnie was born on September 9 th , 1928 in Salem, to Frank Edward Libby and Ethel Massison Libby along with her twin brother William. Winnie was a lifelong Salem resident, completing her early education at St James Grammar School, and then going on to graduate from St James High School.
After graduating from High School, Winnie went on to work as a Telephone Operator in Salem, before moving on to work as a Personnel Manager at Ann and Hope in Danvers, MA. Eventually Winnie married the love of her life, John (Buck) Condon, and they stayed married for 41 years until his death in 1991.
When their children were young, Winnie was a Girl Scout leader, and she often kept herself active at the Salem YMCA and she loved spending time outdoors walking her dogs and playing golf. She enjoyed traveling with her family and entertaining for the holidays. She held many memorable cookouts and card games for friends and neighbors. Get togethers and trips with her group of lifelong girlfriends meant the world to her. She always opened her home to extended family and there was always an extra place at the table for a friend to join in. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Winnie was also an avid fan of her beloved Red Sox and all of the other Boston sports teams.
Winnie is survived by her children Patricia Condon of Salem, Janice Condon of Salem, and Sandra Konopka and her husband John of Peabody; her grandchildren Suzanne Leavitt and her husband David of Burlington, MA, John Konopka Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Christopher Konopka of Peabody, MA; her great grandchildren Max and Josh Leavitt of Burlington, MA and Ayden and Aynslee Konopka of Myrtle Beach, SC; and her sister Patricia Libby Bulger from Charleston, SC. Winnie is also survived by her many nieces and nephews and their families, and her close girlfriends and their families Eleanor Costello, Dorothy Moriarty, Rosemary Jennings, and her sister-in-law Joan Libby, her honorary daughter Judy McMath Stevens, and her beloved Cocker Spaniels Zack and Zoey. Winnie was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband John (Buck) Condon, her twin brother William Libby from Salem, her sister Ann Libby Birmingham from Peabody, and her brother Frank Libby from Kingston, NH.
