William V. Herlihy Obit

William (Bill)  V. Herlihy, Jr.,  resident of Beverly passed away Friday, September, 7 ^th after a brief illness.  Born on March 1, 1929 in Salem, MA, he was the son of William and Margaret (Ellis) Herlihy.  At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Army during World War II and served overseas.

On September 22, 1956 he married Claire A. Jacobson of Revere, MA.  At the time of Claire's death in January of this year, Bill and Claire had celebrated more than 60 years of marriage.  Bill worked for many years for H. P. Hood in Salem, MA and later for the Massachusetts State Lottery.

Bill and Claire, longtime residents of Beverly, also enjoyed many summers at their lakeside cottage in West Newfield, Maine.

Bill is pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Claire, son Stephen Herlihy, and four siblings. He is survived by his three children; Donna (Herlihy) D'Iorio and husband George of Kennebunk, Maine, Richard Herlihy and wife Lydia of Stratham, New Hampshire, and Paul Herlihy of Beverly, one brother, Arthur Herlihy, and eight grandchildren.  A private service was held at Greenlawn cemetery in Salem.
