William Louis Buttner, aged 92, passed away at home on December 21, 2020. Bill was born in Boston to William and Rebecca Buttner on April 28, 1928. Bill grew up in Dorchester, and attended schools in Dorchester and Boston. Bill graduated from Boston Trade High School in Automotive Electronics.

During WWII Bill worked at Lawley's Shipyard in Neponset during his summer vacations and after school. After graduating Bill worked for William H. Flaherty Auto Electric. Bill joined the United States Navy in September of 1950, and during his enlistment he served in the West Coast, Pearl Harbor in Japan, North Korea, South Korea and other various ports. In August of 1954 Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy, and on August 21 1954 he married Doris Cyr. Bill then went on to work for the New England Telephone Company in September 1954 as a Cable Splicer. Eventually Bill transferred to the Installation and Repair department, and was promoted to System Supervisor. Bill retired from AT&T Business Systems on January 1, 1984. He was also a member of IBEW local 103 until 1993.

Bill was the best husband and father, a kind, selfless, and intelligent man. He was a role model for what a man should be.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Doris Buttner, of Salem; his children Joyce Buttner Mallard and her husband Ronald, of Marlborough, William Buttner, of Salem, Kerri Rowand, of Salem, and Beth Kwapis and her husband David of Salem. Bill is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
