William J. "Bill" Simmons, age 98, formerly of Mason St., Salem, died Saturday evening, August 22, 2009 in the Danvers Twin Oaks Nursing Home.
A lifelong resident of Salem, he was born in Salem the son of the late Benjamin and Theresa (Fopiano) Simmons. Once he completed his education, Mr. Simmons worked for many years at the General Electric River Works Plant Aircraft Engine Division in Lynn until his retirement. He enjoyed restoring antiques and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his first cousin Thomas Lynn and his wife Eunice of Sudbury; a sister in Law Jane Simmons of Moultonboro, NH; three nephews Brian Simmons and his wife Jeanne of Beverly and Paul and Mark Simmons both of Moultonboro, NH and two great nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 25th at 10:00 A.M in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. At the family's request there are no visiting hours.
