Salem….
Wilfred P. Parent, age 77 husband of Laura (Chadbourne) Parent of Salem, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the North Shore Medical Center, Salem following a long illness. He and his wife had recently celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Born in Salem the son of the late Philip and Annette (Saindon) Parent he was educated in Salem Schools. After finishing his education at Salem High School, Mr. Parent joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Korea. As a metal procurement specialist he worked on aircraft between missions and was recognized for his service having received the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and tye United Nations Service Medal. Once discharged from active duty he maintained his reserve status until being honorably discharged in November of 1959.
Mr. Parent then became employed by E. G and G in Salem for many years until retiring. In his retirement he continued working part time at the Peabody Essex Museum as a Security Guard until becoming ill in 2003.
Dedicated to his wife and family he enjoyed being around his home and being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children Phillip Parent and his wife Jean of Danvers, Carolyn Archambault and her husband Daniel of Salem and Scott Parent of Salem; seven grandchildren Craig, Corey, Amber, Makayla, Morgan, Madison, and Mariah and one great grandson Christopher and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Violet Tremblay.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Lung Association
