Marblehead – Wendy M. (Mather) Nocks, age 85, died Sunday February 5, 2023, at the Sunrise of Gardner Park Assisted Living in Peabody. Born in Newcastle, England she was the daughter of the late William and Doris (Ogle) Mather. She was raised in England and graduated from the Royal Victoria Infirmary School of Nursing, Newcastle, England in the 1950's. She then worked primarily as a Midwife in England.
She came to the United States in the late 1960's and settled in the Bronx, NY. She was employed with the Albert Einstein Hospital working as a Registered Nurse in the emergency department. She relocated to California where she lived until arriving on the North Shore of Boston, settling in Marblehead just before the blizzard of 1978. While living here she was employed with the Peabody Essex Museum and the House of Seven Gables as a docent for many years. She took great joy in studying and reviewing the facts of the exhibits to make her tours as interesting and engaging as possible. She also worked as an administrator for the Beverly Historical Society.
Wendy was a member of the Hamilton Hall and was very interested in historical and cultural lectures. She was a world traveler and enjoyed going everywhere she possible could. Her mom told her " Wendy travel as much as you can" as her mom was not able to. She was loved by all and had many friends. She was a vibrant woman with a blinding smile.
Surviving her are her two children, Heather L Nocks of Marblehead, Aaron R. Nocks of Ardmore, PA . Her grand dog Roger L. Nocks and many loving family members in England.
Her visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, Salem on Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm with a funeral service held at 6pm at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Peabody Essex Museum, Development Office, 161 Essex St, Salem, MA 01970.
