SALEM- Wayne G. Reed (85), of Salem, passed away after battling complications due to the COVID-19 Virus in the morning of Sunday August 30, 2020 at Adviniacare Health in Salem. Born in Lynn, Wayne was the son of the late Ethel (Gedney) and Waldo Reed.
In Wayne's early life, he worked at Empire Laundry in Lynn for many years. During that time, Wayne met the love of his life Carrie (Maxwell) and they married and moved to Salem. During his time here in Salem, Wayne had a passion for politics and enjoyed campaigning for his favorite candidates. When Wayne wasn't holding signs for the next election, Wayne worked as a janitor at Dunkin Donuts in downtown Salem, and often was referred to as "Ben" for Benjamin Franklin for his similarities in appearance. Wayne will be dearly missed by all who knew him as he will be remembered as a loving husband and father to his family.
Wayne is survived by: his daughter Jeannette Gokey and her husband Timothy; his grandchild Timothy Gokey Jr. and his wife Heather Leblanc-Gokey, and several nieces and nephews. Wayne is predeceased by his loving wife Carrie (Maxwell) Reed; his siblings Gloria Cole, Orrison Reed, Estelle Reed, Rosamond Hudson, and Gaylord Reed.
Services will be held on Thursday September 10, 2020 beginning at 3PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Care Dimensions, located at 75 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA 01923 in Wayne's memory.
