Obituary

Warren Morton Delaware, of Salem, Massachusetts, formerly of Dracut, Massachusetts, passed away in Boston on August 19 th . He was born on December 3, 1925 in Auburn, New Hampshire, the son of Marjorie (Wharton) Delaware from Caherciveen, Ireland and Wallace E. Delaware from Durham, Maine. His wife of 55 years, Mary Bertha (Lessard) Delaware of Dracut, Massachusetts, passed away in 2012.
Prior to joining the Navy, Warren attended Manchester Central High School in Manchester, New Hampshire.
He was a combat veteran of World War II, based out of Adak, Alaska and a Korean War veteran, based at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 1944, Warren was part of the commissioning crew of the U.S.S. Porter, DD 800. Warren took pride in his more than 20 years of service to his country and attended many naval reunions. He retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Gherardi, the U.S.S. Laning, the U.S.S. Knapp, the U.S.S. Allen & the U.S.S. Compton. He trained aboard the U.S.S. Massey.
New Hampshire Public Service Company employed him as a bus mechanic in 1946. Then, the Navy recalled him. Warren served from 1951 to 1952 and from 1954 to 1956 at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After active service, Warren remained in the Naval Reserves as he worked as a machinist and operating engineer for Western Electric Company in North Andover, Massachusetts, later reorganized under AT&T. He retired after 31 years of employment.
Surviving him are his three children: Kim and her husband Robert G. Larkin, Jr. of Salem, MA, Randall, of Portland, ME, and Jeffrey and his wife Tracy (Sanborn) of Haverhill, MA.  He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Delaware, Hannah Delaware, Matthew Larkin and Kyra Larkin.
There are no calling hours. Burial is private.
