Walter S. Williams "Collie" of Marblehead died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 peacefully at his home. Born in Marblehead in 1928, he was the only child of Dr. Walter S. Williams and Mary Trefry Williams. He married Mary Vent on September 25, 1954 and they shared 61 years together.
Collie was graduated from Marblehead schools, Tilton School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. After graduation he was employed by Marblehead Transportation Company for many years. Later, with two friends they purchased Gilbert and Cole Lumber where he worked until he retired in 1997.
In his free time Collie enjoyed traveling with his wife, sailing / racing in Marblehead waters and coaching the Bantam team for Marblehead Youth Hockey where he helped establish the Marblehead to St. Lambert youth hockey competition, which continues to this day.
Collie will also be greatly missed by his children Beth Willard and her husband Laurie; his daughter Sue, all of Marblehead together with his son Will and his wife Kelly of Portland, Maine. He will also be missed by three grandchildren Ben Willard, his wife Lindsay, Nate Willard and Tabby Williams and a great granddaughter, Maggie Willard.
Visiting hours are at Murphy's Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street (corner of North St.), Salem, MA on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11AM at St. Michael's Church, 26 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA.
