Salem, MA – Walter R. Abraham, age 81, husband of the late Frances (Whelan) Abraham, passed away at Mass General Hospital after a brief illness on Friday January 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. Son of the late Baker and Barbara (Talhook) Abraham, he was born and raised in Salem and was a graduate from Salem High School and North Shore Community College. He was a Korean War Navy Veteran, and a retired Captain from the Salem Fire Department.  He enjoyed maintaining gardens and landscapes that he developed with his wife Frances.  He was also a volunteer instructor for Citizenship and Civics education in Salem for individuals pursuing a United States Citizenship.

He is survived by; his daughter Tara L. Croteau and her husband Wayne of Methuen, his son Brian M. Abraham and his wife Jennifer of Minnesota, his sisters Eleanor Harvey of Maryland and June Weissbach of Billerica, and his grandchildren Eliza, Conor, Hunter, Emily and Ryan as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his loving wife Frances, his father and mother Baker and Barbara Abraham, his brother Robert Abraham Sr. and his sisters Betty, Gladys, Rosmond and Nathlie.

Visiting hours for Walter will take place on Thursday January 19, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (Corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970.  A funeral Service will be held on Friday January 20, 2017 at 10 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 385 Essex Street, Salem, MA 01970. Guests are kindly asked to meet at church.
