Wallace S. Campbell, age 86, of Salem, husband of the late Florence M. (Curtin) Campbell, died early Sunday morning, August 10, 2008 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers.
A lifelong resident of Salem he was born in Salem the son of the late Samuel A. and Marion B. (Stuart) Campbell. He was graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1939 and received his Associates Degree from Franklin Technical Institute. During World War II he served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electrician's Mate First Class in the Atlantic Theater of Operation. Mr. Campbell married his late wife Florence in 1947 and they began their family. He then became employed in the electronics industry by Hytron Radio and Electronics Corp but his time home from the military was brief as he was recalled to active duty for the Navy during the Korean War.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he began a 27 year career in 1956 with IBM as a Customer Engineer until retiring in 1983.
A longtime member of the Juniper Community Club where he enjoyed his many friends he also had been active with the Starr King Lodge Masonic Temple of Salem.
Mr. Campbell is survived by four children Colin W. Campbell and his wife Antoinette of Milwaukee, WI, Brian Campbell and his husband Richard Druyetis of Jamaica Plain, Ellen Downing of Rowley and Karen Campbell and her husband Paul Chamber of Peabody; a sister Florence L. Campbell of Danvers; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
