Vivian (Walsh) Freitas of Brooksby Village, Peabody, passed away on April 17th at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Freitas who died in 1999.

A life-long resident of Salem, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (McCabe) Walsh who were also long time Salem residents.

She graduated from Salem High School, class of 1946, and received her Bachelor of Law degree from Portia Law School (now New England School of Law) in 1952.

Mrs. Freitas was a veteran of both the United States Marine Corp and the United States Air Force having served in both services during the early 1950's.

She and her husband were the founders and principals of the Emergency Training Care Institute, an emergency medicine training business which pioneered the recruiting and training of hundreds of North Shore EMTs and First Responders.

She leaves no immediate family but was lovingly and compassionately cared for by the staff and caregivers at Brooksby Village and The Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Cemetery, 226 North St., Salem. Please meet at the main entrance at 10:45 AM.
