Virginia M. "Jinnie" Connelly, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Salem Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Salem, MA, Jinnie was the daughter of the late John J. and Eleanor (Conners) Connelly. She graduated from St. James High School in Salem and the University of New Hampshire.

After graduation, Jinnie joined VISTA and began her lifelong commitment to helping others. After her VISTA service, she remained in Chicago and continued her work with the youth of the community. Jinnie then returned to Salem and worked at the Salem Youth Commission. She followed that by working with her brothers at Colonial Engravers. Jinnie worked at Children's Friend and Family Services before moving on to and then retiring from North Shore Children's Hospital.

Jinnie enjoyed her annual Writers Workshop weekends and was a published author of short stories and essays that she wrote for a variety of publications. She liked crafting with a group of close friends. She loved her vacations with her sister Kathleen, traveling to Nova Scotia, Ireland the Cape and other places throughout New England. Above all else, Jinnie loved her big extended family and enjoyed hosting large noisy holiday dinners.

Surviving her are two brothers, John J. Connelly and his wife Pauline of Topsfield, Paul M. Connelly and his wife, Karen Roche of Beverly, a sister Kathleen Connelly of Salem, her sister-in-law Phyllis Connelly of N. Reading, her foster daughter, Caitlin Connelly and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jinnie was predeceased by her sisters Maureen Connelly and Brenda Connelly and her brother Brian Connelly, all of Salem.

Visiting hours for Jinnie will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem from 9:30a.m. to 11:30a.m. A funeral service will follow visiting hours beginning at 11:30a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
