SWAMPSCOTT — Vincente Anastascio Ramirez, age 90, husband of 50 years to the late Ruby M. (Watson) Ramirez, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 31, 2011 at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott.
Born in Elk City, Kan., he was the son of the late George P. and Soledad (Juarez) Ramirez. Mr. Ramirez was raised in Zarah, Kan., and at the time of his 8th grade graduation, he relocated to Kansas City and was employed with the President and Muehlebach Hotels, where he learned all areas of the hotel-restaurant kitchen business.
Mr. Ramirez entered the United States Navy and served his country during World War II as a Ship's Cook First Class. He served on the Liberty Ships USS Carroll and the USS Bernard Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez loved Big Band and Mexican Mariachi music. They were beautiful dancers. In 1961, Mr. Ramirez opened his first restaurant in Beatrice, Neb.
In 1969, he moved his family to Colorado Springs where he opened his last restaurant, the Outwest Cafe. At the time of Mr. Ramirez's semi retirement, they moved to Peabody where he was employed with North Shore Catholic Charities in maintenance. In 1985, he retried to Schoenchen, Kan. In 2000, Mr. Ramirez moved in with his daughter, Renee, and son-in-law, Bill Keaney, until becoming a resident of the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott in 2005.
Mr. Ramirez was a beloved husband and devoted father. Vaya con Dios Dad. Surviving him are his children, Renee Ramirez Keaney of Marblehead, John V. Ramirez of Barrington, N.H., Michael K. Ramirez of Denver, Susan S. Ramirez of Junction City, Kan., and Vincent Paul Ramirez of Lincoln, Nab; three brothers and one sister, George, Alfred, Gus and Ophelia Ramirez, all of Kansas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Ruth M. Ramirez, and brother of the late Raul, Mary, Henry, Angela and Soledad Ramirez.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North Street), Salem, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
