Obituary

SALEM – Vasilios "Bill" Viglas, 85, died Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness.  He was born in Paravola, Greece on October 19, 1938, and was the son of the late Andrew and Eleni (Plastiras) Viglas. He was raised and educated in Greece and later immigrated to the United States and settled in Salem where he resided for over 55 years. He also proudly served two years in the Greek Army.

Vasilios moved to Massachusetts with his brothers and had taken great pride once he became an official citizen of the United States.  He worked various jobs until he was able to start his own business, a hair salon in Salem, which he owned and operated for over 30 years.

Vasilios very much enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, gardening, going to the beach, taking long walks, cooking and visiting family in his native land of Greece. Vasilios always brought happiness into a room, especially with his humor.  He adored his family, especially his children and grandchildren.  He is very well known in the Northshore community for his generosity and his loving nature.

Surviving him is his daughter Alexia Viglas Meechin and her husband Ryan of Salem, his grandchildren Sophia, Adriana and Olivia Meechin, his sister Martha Alexopoulos and several nieces, nephews and in laws.  He was predeceased by his son Andrew Viglas, his former wife Rosa Preza, and his siblings Athena Gytha, Angelo Viglas, Paul Viglas, Fotini Mania, Toula Polizos, Apostolos Viglas and Elefterios Viglas.
