Una (Harte) O'Donnell, age 88 wife of the late Robert O'Donnell, a longtime resident of Salem, more recently of Peabody, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 peacefully in North Shore Medical Center, Salem surrounded by her family.
Mrs. O'Donnell was born, raised and educated in County Mayo, Ireland the daughter of the late John and Winifred (Stenson) Harte. As a young adult she emigrated to Salem, met her late husband, married and raised her family. For over 20 years Mrs. O'Donnell was employed by the former Danvers State Hospital until retiring in 1979. A devout Catholic, Mrs. O'Donnell attended daily Mass, was very involved in family activities and loved being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two children Eugene O'Donnell and his wife Patricia of Dunedin, FL and Mary Eddy and her husband Karl of Danvers; a brother John Harte of Rochester, NH; two sisters Ann Kavanagh and Bridget Kavanagh both of County Kerry, Ireland; four grandchildren Shannon and Kaitlyn Thibault and Andrew O'Donnell and his wife Marjorie and Meghan O'Donnell.
She was predeceased by two brothers Thomas and Malachy Harte and two sisters Kathleen Freeman and Mary Harte.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10:45 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 A.M. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St.., Peabody, MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
