Peabody….
Thomas F. Tighe, Jr. of Peabody, formerly of Topsfield and Salem passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at home.
Tom Tighe was born July 19, 1942 in Salem, the son of Thomas and Freita (Mathieson) Tighe. He graduated from St. James Grammar School and St. John's Prep in Danvers. He went on to study at the Holy Cross College in Worcester.
From Holy Cross, Tom worked for GTE Sylvania in Salem for 35 years in Sales Management before retiring. He then pursued a manager's position with the Carmelite Gift Shop and Chapel in Peabody. Demonstrating his marketing and sales skills he turned the gift shop in the largest religious gift store on the North side of Boston.
Tom was devoted to his work as well as his family.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth (Kempskie) Tighe ; his children and grandchildren Elizabeth Chafe and her husband Francis and their son Matthew of West Newbury, Kerry Craveiro and her husband Michael and their five children Michael, Andrew, Kaylee, Ashley and Abigail of Danvers; Jennifer Tighe of Peabody and David Tighe of Salem. He is also survived by his brother Kevin Tighe and family of Bethesda, MD; his sister Charlotte Tighe of Washington, DC and his sister Patricia Poitras of Fresno, CA and many nieces and nephews.
Over the years Tom touched many lives with his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, skiing and golf and had many friends through these activities.
While residing in Topsfield for 32 years, he was very instrumental in the planning and building of the new St. Rose of Lima Church. He was a member of the St. Rose Prayer Group and also a team of member of the St. John the Baptist Church Prayer Group with Fr. Paco. He will always be remembered for his love for business, love for family, and love for God.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10:00AM in St Adelaide's Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody, MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Carmelite Chapel at North Shore Mall, 110 Andover St, Peabody, MA 01960. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
