Thomas Michael Page, 78, of Marblehead, MA died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA with his wife, Martha Burgess Page, and nephew, Bryan Page, at his side on February 27, 2023.
Tom was born in Beverly, MA, the son of Mildred (Sanella) and Louis W. Page and raised by his mother and step-father, Romolo Ruscio. After graduating Beverly High School in 1962, from where he later was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for Cross Country, Basketball, and Track, he attended Northeastern University on athletic scholarship before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1963. Tom was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the M-14 Sharpshooter Badge. Tom later obtained his BA & MA in History from Salem State University (formerly Salem State College).
Tom led a wide ranging career that included serving as the Assistant Director of Admissions at Salem State University, where his work additionally included setting up the veterans' center and coaching cross country. In the 1990's he entered the computer business world via sales and ultimately started up his own computer business ventures. Later in the 1990's he returned to Salem State University to pursue his first love of teaching history. He was known for his enthusiastic and interactive teaching style, emphasis on critical thinking, and advocacy for those who have traveled and are traveling a difficult road.
Upon retirement from Salem State University, he became active in the Danvers Historical Society and ultimately became President of the Board. He was very dedicated to advancing the Society's mission and grateful to have the support of the Society's Board and membership.
Tom was an avid golfer known for his skill, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family and dear friends.
Tom was, and his family is, deeply grateful for the compassionate, thoughtful, and skilled care and oversight provided over the years by his PCP, Eleanor Gilbert, MD; rheumatologist, Michael Weinblatt, MD; cardiologist Mark Anderson, MD; and amazing caregivers at Salem Hospital, MGB Home Health, and the Hospice at Home Team followed by the Kaplan Family Hospice through Care Dimensions, Danvers, MA.
Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, Martha Burgess Page of Marblehead; daughter, Christine Mary Page of Marblehead; grandsons, Liam Thomas and Gavin Jack Casmir Dombkowski, of Marblehead; son Thomas Romolo Page of Jamaica Plain; sister Louann Page Basllio of Bonita Springs, FL; nephew Gregory Basillio of Richmond, Texas; nephew Bryan Page and his wife Danielle and children Dylan, Lucas, and Olivia of Kennebunkport, ME; nephew Sean Page and his wife Katie and daughter Charlotte of Andover; grandnieces Sarah Chambers of Lunenburg, Samantha Chambers of Townsend, and Alexandra Basillio of Austin, TX. He is also survived by Jolie Ospina of Katy, TX. He is also survived by his sister in law Jennifer Burgess Wolfrum of Watertown and his nieces in law Laurel Wolfrum of Beverly and Sarah Wolfrum of Malden.
He is predeceased by his mother, Mildred Page Ruscio; step-father Romolo Ruscio; father Louis W. Page; brother Joseph Page; and niece Laura Chambers.
Tom's spirit of determination, curiosity, and advocacy will live on in us all. Visiting hours will take place on Thursday March 9, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem. A memorial service will be held on Friday March 10, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM at the Murphy Funeral Home.
