Thomas Robert Campbell (aka the "Mayor of Ardmore Drive", "The Captain" or depending on what party he attended "Fun Tom") died peacefully surrounded by family after a short illness at the age of 67.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Ridgley) Campbell, and sons Ryan Campbell of Beverly and Matthew Campbell of Danvers. Tom was preceded in death by both his parents Robert J. Campbell and Helen (Kachocki) Campbell, formerly of Salem. He also leaves behind his sister Ellen Ingram of Peach Tree City, GA, Patricia Plante and her husband Richard of Salem and brother Kevin Campbell and his wife Lisa of Danvers, MA. In addition, he leaves many nieces and nephews that were a very important part of his life. Tom had a one granddaughter, Jada, who he loved very much. She was papa's "sweetie". He also leaves his dog and faithful companion, Tucker.
Tom was born on August 27, 1951 in Salem, MA to Helen and Robert Campbell. He graduated from St. Peter's High School in Gloucester and attended King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Tom was married to Carol and they shared 40 years of marriage together. After living together for several years in Salem, Tom and Carol moved to Danvers to raise their family. After many years they welcomed their children Ryan and Matthew to their home and set about teaching them the joys of boating, fishing, camping and hiking. His children remember him as a loving, supporting father who was always there to help them through their happy and tough times.
Tom worked for many years at the Salem Post Office, starting as a letter carrier along with his father Bob "Soupy" Campbell, then working his way up to Superintendent of Postal Operations. He worked there until he was diagnosed with MCL leukemia in 2004. He battled it for a few years and was finally helped by a bone marrow donation from his brother Kevin in 2007, which brought him into complete remission. He enjoyed his life to the fullest until the end.
Tom had a passion to play guitar and taught himself to play fairly well, and he passed his love of music on to his son Ryan who is accomplished in both guitar and piano. Tom also became passionate about his dog Tucker, taking him to the dog park on a regular basis and making many new friends there. When he retired to home, he became known as the Mayor of Ardmore Drive, chatting with everyone in the neighborhood and making sure that everybody stayed in line.
