Obituary

Therese (Terry) Moynihan passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 30 th after being cared for by the incredible staff at the Lafayette Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born in Salem on July 30, 1928 to George S. and Maria C. (Boutiette) Chase. The eldest of three, she spent her early years in Danvers before moving to Salem. She attended Salem High School, graduating in 1946. From there Terry followed her passion -- attending Salem Hospital School of Nursing and completing her education in 1949. She began working in the maternity ward at Salem Hospital and immediately gravitated towards the "special nursery" where she provided care for ill infants for over 50 years. While in school, she was introduced to the love of her life, Francis (Frank) Moynihan by his cousin Trudy, whom she married in 1951. She and Frank moved to Marblehead and began their family, and she resided there for almost 70 years.

After losing her husband at a young age, Terry always credited her family & friends for helping her get through that difficult time. She will always be remembered as a beloved mom, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend. After retirement, Terry was highly involved in the Marblehead & Swampscott Council on Ageing where she stayed active through several activities including bowling, line dancing & bocce. She also enjoyed traveling the world with friends, especially her close friend Mary.

She leaves behind 3 children: Lois Hamrick & husband Steve of Marblehead, Lawrence Moynihan & wife Joan of Gloucester and Kathleen Smith & husband Robert of Hollis, ME; 8 grandchildren: Robin Dickie & husband Eric of Burlington, John Reidy & wife Laura of Needham, Lauren Tenters of Gloucester, Conor McNamee & wife Koren of Ukraine, Maureen McNamee of CA, Anna Philbrick & husband Peter of Hollis, ME, Mark Moynihan & wife Janine of Peabody and Katie Bergin & so Paul Halpin of Marblehead; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She also leaves a brother George S. Chase III & wife Peggi of West Boylston along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her beloved husband Frank & parents, she was pre-decreased by sons William F. Moynihan in November 2020 and John F. Moynihan as an infant, as well as her sister Marcia Caron of Nashua.

A private ceremony will be held with a celebration of life planned for a later date.
