Obituary

Theodore Crannell Tracy passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a short but courageous fight with leukemia. He was 72.

Born in Weymouth, MA, he was the son of the late William A. Tracy and Dorothy W. C. Tracy, both attorneys who kept the family home in Marblehead, MA for many years. After attending schools in Marblehead, Theo attended Lawrence Academy and Boston College.

Professionally, Theo started his career as a sales and marketing executive with the former Essex County Newspapers in Beverly before a lengthy career in print circulation and distribution with The New York Times . It was during his tenure with The Times that he moved to the greater Los Angeles area to open remote printing and distribution sites for the company. He returned to New York again and lived in Darien, CT for many years until his retirement.

But there was no real retirement for Theo, who kept his marketing skills intact working for several years as a consultant for Hastings & Sons Publishing Co., original owners of the Daily Item newspaper in Lynn, MA. After moving to Cincinnati, OH he ran his own marketing consulting practice with two other local associates, concentrating on online sales and distributions as a consultant in the craft beer industry.

His storytelling was legendary and made for interesting and fun relationships with all age groups. He loved being on the water, both along the North Shore coastline and on Michigan lakes, as well as skiing in the mountains both in the east and out west. And, all the while he had an affinity for tracking Boston sports teams and prided himself on getting the stats correct. More importantly, he greatly enjoyed spending time with family and close friends.

He was also a youth sports enthusiast, coaching ice hockey teams in Marblehead and Darien, where he also enjoyed refereeing for nearly 10 years.

Theo is survived by his wife of 40 years, Emma (Egbert) of Cincinnati, OH; his daughter, Abby Tuke and her husband, Beau, of Cincinnati, OH; his son, Nat Tracy, of Buena Vista, CO and beloved Labrador, Daisy.

He is also survived by five brothers and one sister: Daniel C. Tracy and his wife, Jan, of West Hartford, CT; William W. Tracy ("Uncle Sid") and his wife, Karen, of Marblehead, MA; Genevieve C. Tracy and her husband, David Jacobs, of Essex, MA; Leo W. Tracy of Whitefish, MT and his partner, Paula Stahl, of Boston, MA; Richard H.W. Tracy and his wife, Mary, of Groveland, MA; and Robert C. Tracy and his partner, Kathryn Berg, of Bigfork, MT. Theo is also survived by Emma's siblings John Egbert and his wife, Laurie, of Bellingham, WA; Louisa Barkalow of Albuquerque, NM and Derrick Egbert of Cambridge, MA.

He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews and by special family and friends Bonnie Tracy and husband, Seth Lynn, of Marblehead, MA; Marilynn Girard and her husband, Mike, of Whitefish, MT; Fran Tracy of Naples, FL; and Peter Gamage and his wife, Lindsay, of Manchester, MA.

Memorial services will be private, arranged by the Murphy Funeral Home in Salem, MA.

In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations can be made in Theo's name to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, c/o Dr. Marlise Luskin, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA, 02115.
