Theodora A. "Dora" "Dorothy" Mouzakis, age 93, passed peacefully early Monday morning July 27, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Alexandros and Polexene "Pauline" (Pournaras) Mouzakis. She was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1940. Following high school, she attended Essex Institute, Essex Agricultural School, Boston University and Salem State.
Following her education, she started her career as an office manager with Zina Goodel Hardware Store in Salem. She continued her career with the Essex County Registry of Deeds where she was employed as a supervisor for 25 years retiring in 1992.
Miss Mouzakis was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. She was very involved with her church community with the Philoptohos Athena and was the recording secretary and treasurer for 44 years for the Daughters of Penelope, Zelia Chapter. She was also a member of the Shaughnessy Hospital Auxiliary and the Peabody Essex Museum.
Thanks go to the staff at the Peabody Glen Healthcare center for their professional and loving care for the past fourteen years and Nurse Richard for the end of life respect and concern given at the Kaplan Family Hospice House.
Dora elected to be Godmother at the early age of sixteen for Anthone Zarkades of Salem, and later in life became Godmother of Sally Tranos of Marblehead, Anthony A. Zarkades of Huntington Beach, CA and Alexander A Gianoulis of Stoneham. She was also a close and dear friend of Tina Leftes and family.
Her Funeral Service will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem on Friday July 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours are Thursday July 30, 2015 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Mouzakis Scholarship Fund, c/o Salem High School, 77 Willson Street, Salem, MA 01970 or to the St. Vasilios Altar Fund, 5 Paleologos Street, Peabody, MA 01960.
