Thelma J. (Smith) Knowlton, age 87, wife of Albert I. Knowlton, died Sunday evening April 24, 2011 at the Devereux House in Marblehead. Born in Swampscott, daughter of the late Thomas John and Sarah (Blanchard) Smith, she was raised in Swampscott and and graduated from Swampscott High School. Mrs. Knowlton worked with her Father at Thomas J. Smith Catering. Mrs. Knowlton married her husband upon his return from WWII.
Mrs. Knowlton was the owner and operator of Thelma's Bridals of Marblehead for many years. She retired to North Conway, NH almost 30 years ago. While she was there, she enjoyed nature and the outdoors.
In addition to her loving husband, Mrs. Knowlton is survived by her two daughters, Janet K. Morse and her husband David of Marblehead; June C. Knox and her husband Ed of Strafford, NH; two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, David P. Morse, Jr. and his wife Amy and their children Ali and Emily of Chestnut Hill; and Benjamin T. Morse and his wife Ruby and their children Naia and Chad of Waikoloa, HI.
Her funeral service will be held at the Dr. Arland A. Dirlam Chapel at Waterside Cemetery on Saturday at 11:00AM Relatives and friends are invited to attend. As requested by the family, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or the American Red Cross, 100 Cumming Center, Suite 207F, Beverly, MA 01915.
