Sylvia A. (Yudin) Pierce, age 92 years, loving wife of the late Attorney Carl Pierce, died December 29, 2012 at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers. Born in Beverly, daughter of the late Hyman and Edith A. (Rosenbloom) Yudin, she was raised in Beverly where she lived most of her life.
Mrs. Pierce was a teacher in the Peabody Public School System. She taught Elementary School and was one of the first educators in Peabody to be trained in technics for teaching Dyslexic Children. She retired from the Peabody School System in 1966, following 23 years of teaching.
Mrs. Pierce and her husband Carl enjoyed traveling. They had visited fifteen different countries and had traveled the United States Extensively.
Mrs. Pierce was very active in her community. She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Gold -Zassman Post #486 in Beverly where she was active for 10 years. She had also volunteered at Beverly Hospital for 17 years, she had co-chaired a most successful blood drive for the American Red Cross sponsored by the Jewish War Veterans Association and was active in the Temple Sisterhood.
Surviving her are her two children, Alice (Pierce) Dexter and her husband Paul, Sr. of Rochester, NH and Harold Pierce of Beverly. She is also survived by her grandchildren Heidi Dexter of Haverhill and Paul Dexter, Jr. and his wife Katie Dexter and their children Emma and Nora Dexter all of North Yarmouth, ME.
