IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen J.
Schier
September 1, 1954 – February 13, 2024
Stephen J. Schier, born September 1, 1954, passed away February 13, 2024 at Salem Hospital after a long illness. Stephen was born in Lynn, MA and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1973 and Salem State College, with a B.A. in History in 1977. Stephen was a historian with a great passion for Salem and its past. He completed his internship at the Essex Institute in 1977. He co-wrote books on the history of Salem and Peabody and worked at the House of Seven Gables for many years. Additionally, he provided registrar services at the Lynn Historical Society, and curator services at the Lynn G.A.R. He volunteered for many years as a tour guide for historic homes in the city of Salem. In his early years, he was the catering sales manager at George Page's Colonial Hilton in Lynnfield and held various other positions at that landmark facility for fifteen years.
Stephen was a loving, giving, sensitive and sometimes quirky man who had an amazing mind for details, dates and events and storytelling to bring history to life. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many life-long friends.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Sarah Schier and his sister, Sandra DeGrazia. He leaves behind his sisters Sally Nicosia of Peabody, MA., Elaine Cutler of Londonderry, NH., and his devoted friend Nathalie Binney, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
At his request, services will be held privately for the family. No flowers please. If you would like to honor Stephen, please consider a donation to the Perkins Library for the Blind at www.perkins.org or 175 N. Beacon St. Watertown, MA 02472.
