Obituary

Stephen Charles Ingemi, 95, owner of Steve's Quality Market and former Salem Police Officer passed away on Sunday November 25, 2018 unexpectedly at his Home.

Stephen was born and raised in Salem by his parents Stephen and Josephine Ingemi. He attended Salem Schools and thrived in extracurriculars as he was a star football player for the Salem High School Witches. He dominated the field as he was the captain of the team in '39, '40, and '41 under Coach Broderick while earning the nickname "Rock of Gibraltar" for his outstanding play on the field.  From his success on the field, Stephen earned a football scholarship at the University of Mississippi until he was called to serve in World War II. Mr. Ingemi served his country with great pride in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He rose through the ranks to Sargent and served in the Military Police. He fought battles of Luzon and Leyte and served as guard to General Krueger.

When Stephen returned home, he met the love of his life Domenica and they were married for 66 years. Stephen and his wife had five children as they started and raised their family together. During that time, Stephen became a Salem Police Officer serving his community. However, Stephen will be remembered as the proprietor of Steve's Quality Market, that his father started to sell the eggs from his family's  chicken farm on Highland Ave.

Steve loved having his family around, greeting his customers at the market, helping others behind the scenes, dancing, making someone laugh, sports, and especially football. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered as a true Salem Icon for all he contributed to the community. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family.

Steve is survived by: his loving wife Domenica (Antonuccio) Ingemi of 66 years; his daughter Jodie Fenton and her husband Paul of Hamilton (formerly of Marblehead), his son Stephen Ingemi of Salem, his son Peter Ingemi and his wife Debra of Salem, his daughter Marie Buckley and her husband James of Salem, his daughter Ann Kapoll and her husband David of Marblehead; his grandson Patrick Fenton of New York, his grandson Sean Fenton of Mobile, AL, his granddaughter Maryann Taggart and her husband Ian of Janesville, WI, his grandson Peter Ingemi Jr. and his partner Charolette Thornton of Salem, his granddaughter Ami Hahn and her husband Jeffery of Danvers, his grandson James Ingemi of West Orange, NJ, his granddaughter Allison Kapoll, his granddaughter Elaine Kapoll, and his granddaughter Laura Kerr of Marblehead; his great grandchildren Clark Taggart and Reagan Hahn; and many nieces and nephews.
