Stanley J. Usovicz, Sr., age 82 beloved husband of Alice E. (Holleran) Usovicz died Saturday morning February 16, 2008 in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home, Salem. He and his wife had celebrated 55 years of marriage on September 27, 2007.

A lifelong resident of Salem, he was educated in Salem schools, the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Trakimas) Usovicz. While growing up, Mr. Usovicz enjoyed hunting with his family. He was graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1943 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his discharge, Mr. Usovicz was graduated from New England Aviation School in East Boston (which is now a part of the Boston College Aeronautical School) where he earned his aviation engine and airplane license. He then became employed by General Electric in Lynn for a brief period until he was recalled to the United States Navy to serve the country during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.

Following his second discharge, Mr. Usovicz returned to General Electric where he was employed for 40 years until he retired in 1989 as a Gear Cutter in the Marine Turbine Division.

A devoted husband, he enjoyed spending time with his children and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children and nine grandchildren, Alyce and her husband and John F. Davis and their children Courtney and John of Salem, Stanley and his wife Mary Usovicz and their children Stanley J. III and Maureen of Salem, Elizabeth Usovicz and her husband Dean Mathewson of Westwood, KS, Eileen Usovicz and her husband C. Lee Jones and their daughter Vannis of Prairie Village, KS, Michael R. Usovicz and his children Caroline, Jennifer, Michael and James of Beverly Farms and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Stanley's twin brother Edward J. Usovicz and a brother William Usovicz.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
