Stanley P. Cahill of Salem, MA passed away on October 16, 2020 after a year-long battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer). He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle A. Sullivan, his children Meagan Cahill and Jesse Frantz, Kirsten and Russ Kneipp, Michael and Katherine Cahill; and Ryan Cahill and Samantha King; his six grandchildren: Rory, Tessa, Corinne, Eliza, Sean and Mackenzie; and his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Kathy Cahill. He also had a large extended family that he loved.

Stan was raised in Mays Landing, NJ, by Stanley and Virginia (Rankin) Cahill. Virginia was from Sydney, Australia, and Stan loved being part Australian. The first in his family to attend college, he earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State. Stan spent the bulk of his career rising through the ranks at Salem State University, starting as Dean of Student Life and retiring in 2014 as an Executive Vice President. He touched the lives of many SSU students and colleagues.

Stan laughed easily and often, with a sense of humor both goofy and infectious. His wide, welcoming grin squinted his eyes and let you know how truly happy he was to see you. Stan was also competitive and driven, but loved a good challenge more than a win. He was also a distance runner, a  habit that allowed him to indulge—he never passed up a chance to satisfy his sweet tooth.

Best of all, Stan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He especially loved it when all four of his kids were together with him. It is to his great credit that his kids are who they are today. He also adored his grandkids, buying them sweets, taking them fishing, fixing their toys, and sharing inside jokes with them. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
