Siranoush (Arsenian) Blanaru, age 84, wife of the late Alexi C. Blanaru, died Friday evening in the North Shore Medical Center, Salem.

Born in Romania, the daughter of the late Garabet and Armenuhi (Yazigian) Arsenian, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and son in the early 1960's after spending a year in Lebanon. They settled in Salem and Mrs. Blanaru became a seamstress working in both Salem and Lynn for many years until her retirement. She then became a very active member of the Salem Council on Aging where volunteered with the Treasure Trove Gift Shop.

A world traveler, Mrs. Blanaru was s strong supporter of Romanian causes. An avid gardener she enjoyed maintaining her flower gardens. She also grew many of her own vegetables, was an accomplished cook, and is well known for her homemade tomato soup.

Mrs. Blanaru is survived by two grandchildren Jennifer and her husband Timothy Keough of Beverly and Amy Blanaru of Peabody; a sister Navart Svoboda of Lynn; a niece Hermina Svoboda of Lynn; a great niece Kelly Cison of Chicago, IL; and a great nephew Robert Svoboda of Chicago, IL.

She was predeceased by a son Dan Blanaru, a nephew Alexandru Svoboda and a great nephew Brad Svoboda.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
