IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Rankin
Broyer
May 26, 1922 – October 14, 2018
Shirley, a life-long resident of Salem, fought a long battle with dementia and passed away on October 14, 2018 at Ledgewood Rehab in Beverly. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph E. Broyer in 1959, and was the daughter of William and Willetta Walton. She was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Eaton, Priscilla Lunn and a brother Sargent Walton.
Shirley graduated from Salem High School. After H.S. she worked for Sylvania where she met the love of her life; our dad Joe. She was widowed at the young age of 37 years. Having four young children to raise on her own was a challenge at times but she always met those challenges, everyday, with love and smiles and she excelled! She was our life as ours was hers.
After the passing of her husband she worked for the Salem Public Library for many years as a cataloger until her retirement. She then went back to the library part time delivering books to shut-ins.
Her family and many friends were her life. She had a radiant smile for everyone, once you met her, you had a friend for life in Shirley. She was always there for anyone in need.
Shirley is survived by: her four children; Deborah R. Green and her partner David Wright, David E. Broyer and his wife Christine, Barbara A. Mahoney and her husband Michael and William J. Broyer and his wife Suzanne; as well as, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
