Sharon "Sherri" (Mac Arthur) Brophy, a longtime resident of Salem MA died February 23 surrounded by loved ones at MGH of complications from Viral Pneumonia at the age of 63. Sherri was born in Lynn MA and was the daughter of the late Dorothy Mac Arthur of Marblehead.

Sherri shared 45 wonderful years with her husband Paul. She was the mother of Michael James Brophy of Hull Ma and Tina Marie Bettencourt of Haverhill Ma, Mother –in –law to Theresa Brophy of Hull MA and Joseph Bettencourt of Haverhill MA, Grandmother to Nolan, and Jett Brophy of Hull Ma, Nikki Moberg and Kalani Brophy of Plymouth Ma and Alicia Bettencourt of Haverhill MA, Great Grandmother to Mason and Madison Moberg of Plymouth MA. She was the sister of the Marcia Mc Laughlin of Salem NH and the late Bruce Mac Arthur of Beverly MA., and aunt to 18 nieces and nephews in the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire area.

Sherri lived life to the fullest by traveling extensively and enjoying nature to as she found it. Sherri loved the great cites of Europe and visited Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Zurich. Sherri traveled extensively across the USA numerous times, visiting Rocky Mountain, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, and Volcanoes National Parks where she had close encounters with Grizzly Bears, Bison, Long Horned Sheep, and Elk.

Sherri had a passion for bridges, tunnels and mountains. Sherri drove over the Swiss Alps and thru the Mount Blanc tunnel. She drove to the top of Mt. Rainier in Washington and Mt Evans in Colorado, across the Federation Bridge in New Brunswick, the Chesapeake Tunnel-Bridge complex in Maryland and the Boulder Dam in Arizona.

Sherri loved day tripping and weekending in New England. She visited most every village and hamlet in the six state areas as well as the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Woodstock Vermont, Newport Rhode Island and Rangeley Maine were here favorite New England destinations. Sherri was an avid Moose spotter and Birder. Her life list included Bald Eagles, Sand Hill Cranes, and Snowy Owls. She photographed scores of moose in Northern Maine and New Hampshire.
Sherri was an accomplished business woman who managed a chain of woman's clothing stores, operated a tanning salon and owned a sub shop.
Sherri loved her dogs Brady, Paco,

and Frankie and her cat Dusty. Sherri raised numerous baby birds and squirrels that had been abandoned in her yard at birth, releasing them back into nature whenever possible.
Sherri was first class cook who never missed an opportunity to entertain her family and friends. Sherri could create new dishes on a whim or reinvent standard recipes with ease. She continually taught her family members the fine art of culinary creations.
Sherri loved her family to a fault and treated strangers she encountered during her life with a kind word and a compliment. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and remembered forever as an extraordinary woman.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held on Wednesday evening , March 2, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by funeral services at 8:00PM in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
