Santo "Sam" DeFrancesco at the age of 85 loving husband of Jeanne (Bouley) DeFrancesco of Salem, having recently celebrated their 66th year of marriage, passed away Tuesday, January 27th at the Kaplan Center in Danvers surrounded by his family.
Born in Salem, son of the late John and Margaret (Mento) DeFrancesco. Sam's father founded the family business, John DeFrancesco & Sons in 1918. Still in operation today, Sam along with Father and Mother, Brothers Patsy and Joe, and Sister Margaret and her husband Louie Landolfi, guided the company as a leader in the produce industry for decades. Active many years at the Salem open air market. Also, opened retail stores In the North Shore area and eventually transitioning into real estate.
After his retirement, he and his wife Jeanne enjoyed spending winters in Florida, and residing in Topsfield. Along with love and devotion for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sam also had a passion for gardening.
Mr. DeFrancesco is survived by his Sons Mark DeFrancesco and his wife Maria of Peabody, Brian DeFrancesco and his wife Denise of Rowley, and John DeFrancesco and his wife Jacqueline of Peabody: 7 Grandchildren Michael and his wife Teresa, Matthew and his wife Micheli, Jeffrey and his wife Julie, Lea, Justin, Jillian, Nicolas and Jeena; Great Grandchildren Gianna, Valentino, Aiden, Natalie and Lucas; Two sisters Marie Munroe and Sarah DeFrancesco.
He was predeceased by his siblings Patsy DeFrancesco, Joe DeFrancesco, Margaret Landolfi, Josephine Fusco and Jeanette Bonfanti.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (corner of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon in St. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 P.M.
