Sally Carter Gould was born September 26, 1928 in Cambridge, MA. She was the daughter of Louise F. Carter and William E. Carter of Swampscott, MA. Sally was raised in Swampscott and attended Swampscott High School. She graduated from the Mary Burnham School in Northampton, MA in 1946. She attended Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, PA and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1950 with a degree in Home Economics. In 1953, she married Elisha Perkins (Perk) Gould, Jr. in Swampscott, MA. After spending two years in Maine, they settled in Marblehead, MA and had two sons, Elisha (Terry) and William (Bill).
Sally died on May 23, 2017 after a two year battle with heart failure. She died peacefully with her husband and sons by her side.
For many years Sally was a substitute teacher in the elementary schools in Marblehead. She was also a longtime member of the Corinthian Yacht Club where she enjoyed tennis, swimming, sailing and a frequent cup of chowder on the porch. She was also a former member of Tedesco Country Club. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed their three championships late in her life. She also enjoyed spending time in Maine and cruising along the coast.
Perhaps Sally's greatest passion was for the game of bridge. She learned the game in college and was a skilled player and patient teacher. She played in many groups with her husband and friends and was always up for a game. She loved to come home and let the family know she had won that day.
Sally is survived by her husband of 64 years Perk Gould, her son, Terry and his wife, Susan and her son Bill, and his wife, Francesca. Five grandchildren, Ellis, Hilary, and Claire of Winnetka, IL, Will and George of Golf, IL also survive her. Her sister Jane Watts predeceased her.
Sally touched a lot of people over the years and her upbeat attitude; witty sense of humor and distinctive accent, will be missed by many.
A celebration of her life will be held on June 17
