Retired Salem Fire Department Lieutenant Paul E. Lord, husband of the late Dorothy (Trainor) Lord died at home unexpectedly Sunday afternoon.

Born in Salem the son of the late Victor M. and Blanche (Francoeur) Lord he attended ST. John's Prep for three years and graduated from Salem High School. A decorated veteran, Mr. Lord then served in the United States Army Air Corps., was stationed in the Pacific and had participated in the Air Offensive against Japan.

Following his discharge he was appointed to the Salem Fire Department serving the City of Salem for 31 years until his retirement in 1979. He had also operated a washer/dryer repair business for many years.

Mr. Lord loved life and enjoying everything it had to offer. There wasn't anything he wouldn't try which produced many interesting stories for his family and friends. His interest ranged from motorcycles to his private pilots license and flying ultra light airplanes. An avid boater, he had owned a tug boat for many years. Mr. Lord became an active and regular member of the V.F.W. Witch City Post 1524 in Salem where he had many friends. He was a loving father, dedicated grandfather and enjoyed being around his family.

He is survived by two sons John Lord and his close companion of many years Jeanne Franco and Mark Lord and Laurie Curran all of Salem; two daughters Deborah Sinclair and her husband Gordon and Mary Lou Lord Patey and her husband Kevin all of Beverly; four grandchildren Susana, Aimee, and Matthew Sinclair and Annabelle Lord Patey; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Victor Lord and a sister Blanche "Buffy" Chute.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem..
