Ruth G. McCarthy, age 85, of Arlington, died in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a brief illness.
Born in Arlington the daughter of the late Charles A. and Gertrude M ( Quigley) McCarthy, she was educated in local schools. Following her high school graduation, Miss McCarthy received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Business from Boston University. For over 30 years she was employed by MITRE (the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research and Engineering) in Bedford, the last 20 as a senior Purchasing Agent.
An active parishioner of St. Agnes Church in Arlington for many years, where she sang in the choir, Miss McCarthy had enjoyed playing tennis, summering in Hampton, NH and, most of all, family gatherings.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Karin McCarthy and her husband Doug Atkinson of Marblehead, RuthAnn McCarthy and her partner Michelle LeBlanc of Nashua, NH, William Cronin and his fiancee Lorraine L. Delisle of Portsmouth, NH; Charles and his wife Sharon Cronin of Harvard, MA and Tara and her husband Peter Mickela of Portsmouth, NH and many grand nieces and nephews and one great-grand nephew.
She was predeceased by a brother Vincent McCarthy and a sister Elizabeth Cronin.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 9:00 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of Rte 114, exit 25 A from Rte 128) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, February 2, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01924.
