Ruth M. (Buckley) McSwiggin, age 86, died peacefully at home Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2015 with her children Raymond and Janet by her side. She was the wife of the late Salem Firefighter, Raymond V. McSwiggin.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late William V. and Anna E. (Wells) Buckley. She was a lifelong resident of Salem and graduated from Salem High School. For many years she was employed as a secretary at the former North Shore Glass Co.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader; reading to keep up on current events as well as for pleasure. Ruth enjoyed traveling with family and friends including trips to California, Hawaii, many western trips to the National Parks and a cruise through the Panama Canal.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Janet M. McSwiggin of Beverly and son Raymond F. McSwiggin of Salem, sister in law Mary Buckley of Salem, six cousins Nancy Beirne of Topsfield, Dorothy Bonfanti of Peabody, Mary M. McLaughlin, Beth Coss of Danvers, and David Sampson of Boxford, two nieces Ellen Arrington, R.N of Salem, Dorothy Kilroe of Middleton and one nephew Peter Buckley of W. Newbury. Her sister-in-law Marcia McSwiggin and a close family friend Gloria S. Pawlyk of Beverly. She was pre deceased by her brothers James L. Buckley and William V. Buckley Jr. and her nephew Michael Buckley. We would like to thank her niece, Ellen Arrington, R.N., for her loving care of her aunt Ruth during her illness.

Her funeral will be held from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 9:15 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, One Margin St., Peabody at 10 A.M. Visiting hours are Sunday July 12, 2015 at the Funeral Home from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
