Ruleffe "Rudy" Farwell Barbour, age 83, husband of Diane (Butler) Barbour,
with whom he shared 42 years of marriage, died at home on Saturday, July 7th
following a courageous battle with cancer and emphysema.

Born and raised in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Frank and Loretta
(Shaw) Barbour, he was graduated from Somerville High School. Following
his graduation from Hebron Academy, Mr. Barbour was graduated from the
United States Naval Flight School in September 1943.

Mr. Barbour then completed his advanced training in Pesacola, FL, and was
commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He then
completed Primary Instructors School at NAS, New Orleans and Forward Air
Control in San Diego and was assigned to the 5th Marine Division in Hawaii.
After his promotion to 1st Lieutenant, he made the landing on Iwo Jima with
the 26th Marines. Once Iwo Jima was secured, Mr. Barbour was transfer to
the 3rd Maine Division and released from active duty in March of 1946.

Rudy still had a strong interest in the Marine Corps and joined VMF 235
at Squantum until September, 1950 when he was recalled to active duty with
the 1st Marine Division. During his tour of duty in Korea he was promoted
to Captain and served in Korea until being discharged from active duty in
October 1952.

Mr. Barbour joined the reserve program at South Weymouth where he had served as Executive Officer of the South Weymouth Reserve
and the Commanding Officer of M.A.C.S 21. Mr. Barbour proudly served the
U.S Marine Corps and the US Marine Corps Reserves with a total of 43 years
of service until his discharge as a Colonel.

For over 40 years, Mr. Barbour was in the advertising and printing business
in Boston. He became active in many associations in those fields and was
the founder and first President of the Production Club of Boston. He was a
past member of the Advertising Club of Boston, a long time member of the
Wardroom in Boston (an organization for officers of the military; a member
of the Marine Corps League of Swampscott and a 60 year member of the
Philanthropic Masonic Lodge.

Rudy enjoyed being with his family and keeping his flower garden at home.
He was also an old movie buff who enjoyed reading, playing golf and horseback riding.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Barbour is survived by a brother Frank and his
wife Jan of Ozark, Alabama; a sister in law Susheila Barbour of Topsfield,
widow of his younger brother Randall; two children Douglas Allen Barbour of
Norton and David and his wife Sue Barbour of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four
grandchildren Melissa and Matthew Barbour of Albuquerque, NM. Douglas and
his wife Amy Barbour of Marblehead and Jessica Barbour of Norton, MA; his
step father in law C. Kennethy Swamson of Marblehead; a brother in law
Robert Butler of Marblehead; two sisters in law Barbara and her husband
Lyman Smith of South Sutton, NH and Caryl and her husband John Brubaker of
Park City, Utah and San Francisco, CA.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday July 21 at 11:00 A.M. in
Waterside Cemetery, Westshore Dr., Marblehead under the direction of the
Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem. A celebration of Rudy's life
will follow at the VFW Lyman Rollins Post 2005, 321 West Shore Drive,
Marblehead, MA 01945. At the family's request there are no visiting hours.
