Rosemary L. (Hogan) Ryan, age 87, died surrounded by family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, Thursday, May 1, 2014, following a brief illness. She was the widow of Edward J. Ryan, Jr.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of Francis M. and Louise (McMorrill) Hogan. She was a 1943 graduate of St. Mary's Star of the Sea High School. Rosemary went on to achieve her Registered Nursing degree in 1947 from the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing. She had careers at both Beverly Hospital and Salem Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years and from which she retired.
On September 16, 1950 she married the late Edward J. Ryan, Jr. with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. The loves of her life were her family and "The Club." For several years she was a Eucharistic Minister at St. James Church and also a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Mrs. Ryan is survived by four children, Christine L. and her husband Edward J. Flynn, Jr. of Peabody, Elaine M. Lovett and her husband Daniel V. of Canton, MA, Edward J. Ryan III of Colorado Springs, CO and Francis M. Ryan and his wife J. Whitney of Washington Depot, CT; her two brothers, Francis M. Hogan and his wife Marilyn from Warminster, PA and Charles H. Hogan of Beverly. She had five grandchildren, Kathryn M. Flynn, twins Emily L. and Sarah R. Lovett, Charles E. Ryan and Margaret W. Ryan and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street (corner of North St) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 in St Thomas the Apostle Church, 1Margin St., Peabody, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM in the funeral home.
