Rose (Silva) Ortins, age 99, wife of the late Gregorio Ortins of Peabody, died at the Rosewood Nursing Home, Peabody following a brief illness.
Born in the Azores, Portugal the daughter of the late Manuel Sousa and Ana (Gil) Silva her family moved to the Unites States when she was five years old and settled in Peabody. At the early stages of World War I her family returned to the Azores where she married her late husband and they began their family.
In 1960 she returned to Peabody and became employed the Ideal Baby Shoe Company in Danvers for several years. Most of all Mrs. Ortins is know for her love of family. She was an accomplished seamstress who lived to knit as well as being with her grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (cor of North St) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
