Rosalia Occhipinti, age 83, died Friday night, June 13 at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA. Born in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Santi Quartarone and Giovanna (Saija) Quartarone. She was raised and educated in Sicily and immigrated to the United States in 1967 with her family. Her family settled in Salem.


Surviving Mrs. Occhipinti are her son and daughter; Maria Carney of Salem; John Occhipinti and his wife Maryann of Sommersworth, NH. She was predeceased by son Robert Occhipinti. She also leaves two brothers; Carmelo Quartarone and his wife Margaret of Swampscott, and Giuseppe Quartarone and his wife Agata of Salem; a sister in law Liliana Occhipinti and her husband Orazio of Salem; she also leaves nine grandchildren; Daniel Carney, Christina Wheeler, Alissa Dejesus, Mark Guy, John Occhipinti, Nicholas Occhipinti, Emily Occhipinti, Anthony Occhipinti and Gino Occhipinti.

Rosalia was a wonderful and devoted mother and wife. She loved to cook and enjoyed sharing time with her friends. She also enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Services will be held at St. Anne's Church, 292 Jefferson Avenue, Salem at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Her visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 19 from 4 – 8 pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem.
