Ronald G. "Ron" "Pappy" Freitas age 65 loving husband for 28 years of Deborah (Brown) Freitas of Salem died Tuesday morning in Massachusetts General Hospital.
He was born in Peabody the son of the late George A. and Eva (Martwichuck) Freitas and had lived in Peabody as a young boy. His family later moved to Salem where he attended Salem Schools graduating from Salem High School in the Class of 1960. While in school he enjoyed sports and had played football for Salem High School.
Following his graduation, Mr. Freitas became employed by the former Hawthorne Tanning Company which was later acquired by Flynntan Leather Company where he also worked. Later, he became employed by Avnet in the shipping and receiving Department until becoming ill and retiring.
Mr. Freitas had been active in local sports playing softball for the City of Salem and the Salem Moose Lodge as well as coaching Lynn Youth Soccer. An avid Elvis fan, he enjoyed watching TV, sitting on his front porch on Bridge St and people watching as well as being at Winter Island where he enjoyed watching all the activity taking place.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Freitas is survived by three children Melissa and her husband Randy Hills of Dover, NH, Jennifer and her husband Geraldo Hernandez and Ronald Freitas Jr. and his fiancé Trisha Flazarano all of Salem; a brother Richard and his wife Cynthia Freitas of Springdale, Arkansas; three sisters Katherine and her husband Dick Surett of Groveland, Karen and her husband Peter Nekoroski of Salem and Deborah and her husband Jeffrey Jones of Middleton; his mother in law Ruth Brown of Kingston, NH, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Agnes Church, Middleton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
