Roland R. Bourque, 81, of Salem, MA. loving husband of the late Doris (LaJoie) Bourque, passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2016. Born and raised in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Melanson) Bourque. He is survived by two sons; Stephen and his wife, Lynne, and Kevin and his wife, Cheryl; and six grand-children, Victoria, Katy, Andrew, Alisyn, Justyn, and Trystan. He is survived by two brothers, Robert and Edmund, and was predeceased by seven other siblings, Leo, Rene, Loretta, Marie, Jeanette, Alfred, and John.
After graduating from Eymard Prep in New York, Mr. Bourque served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. In 1961, he began his long tenure as an accountant at the United Shoe Machinery Corp in Beverly, MA. While working full time, he attended night classes and eventually earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at Bentley College in 1970. In 1998, he retired after 38 years at "the Shoe." In his retirement, he spent many happy hours in his shop, tinkering with the woodworking and handy-man projects that he always loved. He and Doris also traveled widely, visiting scores of countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Above all, Roland will be remembered for his long marriage to Doris, his constant companion and soulmate, and for their mutual admiration and devotion.
His funeral will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (corner of North Street), Salem, MA. at 10:30 AM.
