June 1, 1930 – January 22, 2017
SALEM – Roger Rogers, 86, of Salem, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Roger was devoted to his wife, Joan Murray Rogers, and together they shared 62 years of marriage.
Roger was born and raised in Lynn, Ma and graduated from Lynn English High School in 1947. Upon graduation, Roger joined the Air force, proudly serving in the Korean War. Following his military discharge, he was employed by New England Telephone until his retirement in 1989. Roger was an avid sports fan and known by all for his tremendous sense of humor and his love of vacations.
In addition to his wife, Joan, Roger is survived by three children: Michele MacDonald, of Salem, David Rogers and his wife Judy, of Somerset, N.H. and Tracy Salehi and her husband Tony, of Salem. In addition, Roger leaves four grandchildren: Melanie Longo and her husband Christopher, of Danvers, Thomas Dixey and his wife Amanda, of Salem, Andrew Rogers and his fiancé Katie Hrubiec of Manchester, N. H. and Kelsey Baker and her partner Daniel Moss of Melrose, along with three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Snow and her husband, James, of Peabody.
Roger will be missed by his large, extended circle of family and friends.
Roger was a life time member of the AOH, Division 18, of Salem and as well as a member of the American Legion, Beverly.
Visiting hours for Roger will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. Salem, MA 01970 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. His funeral will be from the Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 9:00 A.M. Followed by A Mass of Christian burial held at St. James Church, 160 Federal St. Salem, MA 01970 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
