Robert E. Levin, PhD, P.E., aged 90, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on March 4. Born on October 11, 1931 to Morris and Lydia Ruth (Simpson) Levin in Orange, CA, Bob went on to receive all of his degrees, including his Doctor of Philosophy, from Stanford University, where he met his wife of 54 years, until her death in 2012, Karen Noel Levin (Andree). Five years after marrying, Bob and Karen moved from the West Coast to the East, where they would live in Hamilton for over 30 years, and then in Salem for another 25 years.

Dr. Levin worked  at Osram Sylvania as a corporate scientist in the Lighting Division for 48 years before retiring in 2011.  He was a senior member of the Optical Society of America,  a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society, a Charter Member of the American Society for Photobiology, a Life Senior of IEEE, and a member of the American Society of Lighting Directors, INC.  Dr. Levin was an adjunct professor of Electrical Engineering at UNH from 1982 to 2001, as well as an adjunct assistant professor at RPI from 1990 to 2009.  There is a laboratory named for him at the Lighting Research Center at RPI.  He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Bob is survived by his children, Kristen and her husband Mark Neifeld of Tucson, Arizona, and Erik N. Levin of Freehold, NJ; and his grandson Malcolm Neifeld.  He is predeceased by his parents, and his loving wife Karen Levin.
