Obituary
Robert Andersen Miller devoted husband of Elaine Arrington Miller for 62 years passed away peacefully on Monday April 29th.
A long -time resident of Marblehead he was born July 2, 1927 in Lowell , Ma. the son of the late George Wilfred and Marion Andersen Miller. Bob attended Marblehead schools and was president of the senior class of 1945.
After serving in the U. S. Coast Guard he attended and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Business School in 1950. Bob was President and CEO of the Homer R. Hill company of Boston and Marblehead where he developed his unsurpassed expertise in the coffee business. Through his business as a food broker he formed many lifelong relationships that continued to flourish long after his retirement in 1997.
Whether working for Harold Smith on the Panther as a young man, sailing with Homer Hill on the Java during his college years or cruising down East with Elaine and friends, the sea was always an important anchor in his life. Bob was exceptionally creative and artistic; Among his many interests were jewelry making and wood working. In addition to creating furniture for his homes in Marblehead and North Conway he loved wood carving and created many walking sticks and wood carvings which he generously gave to friends and loved ones.
He will be dearly missed by his family whom he cherished: his wife Elaine, the love of his life since kindergarten; his daughter Jody and her husband David Greene as well as their three children Kimberly, Jennifer and Katie of Nashua, NH; son Robert jr. and his wife Shoko Miller and their sons Robert III and George of Concord, Ma.; son Richard and his wife Joan Miller and their children Elizabeth and Emily of Marblehead as well as his nieces, Charlotte and Susan and his nephew David. He was pre-deceased by his sister Barbara Cate and her husband Neal and his sister Charlotte Miller.
A memorial service will be held on May 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 28 Mugford St., Marblehead, MA 01945. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Bob's name.
