Obituary

MARBLEHEAD-

Mr. Robert "Bob" Hayes, died Thursday evening, March 20th, at the Lafayette Nursing Home in Marblehead. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Maryhelen A. (Flynn).

Born in Swampscott, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Annie F. (Ledlie) Hayes, he attended Swampscott schools. He left Swampscott High School to join the U. S. Marines and proudly served in the Marine Corps until his Honorable Discharge in 1945.

Bob will be remembered for his 44 years as a car salesman on the North Shore, where he made many friends and had numerous lifelong customers.

He and his family were members of the Boston Yacht Club for many years. Around town Bob will be remembered as an avid Photographer and Bicyclist, riding his bicycle with a passion into his mid-70's. Bob will also be remembered as a regular fixture at The Muffin Shop.

He was the beloved father of two children, Peter W. Hayes and his wife, Shelley, of Beaumont, TX and Roberta E. Andrews and her husband, Steve of Marblehead. His four grandchildren Stephen A. Andrews, Jr. of Marblehead; Bryanna, Robert "Levi" and Ryan Hayes of Beaumont, TX were the light of his life.
He is also survived by a sister, Mary O'Neill and her husband, Ed, of Lynnfield and Nahant; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald, Lynne (Barrett) Hayes of Marblehead; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Richard, William, Lawrence and Donald Hayes.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 81 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, MA 01945. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 TO 8 PM. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
