It is with great sorrow the family of Tom Hamond announces his sudden passing due to complications of Parkinson's Disease on January 2, 2019. Tom will forever be remembered by his high school sweetheart and wife Sheila, his children Tammy, Tara (Adam), and his brother Roy (Karen). He will also be forever remembered by his grandchildren Julia and Jenna. Tom will also be remembered fondly by his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends and colleagues.
A native of Marblehead, Tom attended Marblehead High School class of 1965, University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture Associates of Science 1968, University of Massachusetts Amherst Class of 1971 (BS Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design) and Northeastern University Master of Science, Outdoor Recreation Education, 1977.
Tom dedicated his entire career, beginning as a teenager, to the Town of Marblehead. Tom worked for the Tree Department beginning in High School, and at age 23 began his long tenure as Superintendent of Recreation and Parks. Tom was associated with, and an honored member of numerous societies and clubs including, St. Michael's Church, Marblehead Rotary Club and Rotary International, the Philanthropic Lodge AF & AM, Board of Corporators, Marblehead Savings Bank and he was also an Eagle Scout and an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. Tom was the recipient of several honors and awards for his many years of service, and humanitarian work.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 4-8 pm, at and a Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on January 10, 2019. Both services will be held at St. Michael's Church, 26 Pleasant St. Marblehead MA. A Celebration of Life service and tree dedication will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private per the request of the family. In Tom's memory, memorial donations in memory of Tom can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation at The Michael J.
