Obituary

SALEM- Robert "Bob" J. Dykeman (77), of Malden, passed away on Thursday June 29, 2023 at Advinia Care in Salem. Born in Boston, Bob was the son of the late Eileen (McSweeny) and James Dykeman.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Malden as he grew up with three other siblings. After graduating from high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob went onto work for the Department of the Navy as a printer.

Thereafter, Bob met the love of his life Jane (MacKaracher) as the two got married in 1983. The two spent their time with their family camping in Sturbridge and Wells, ME. Bob's love for Jane was one of his greatest passions in life. Bob spent many years square dancing with Jane, playing cribbage with friends and family, and breaking bread with those he cared about most. He was also a crossing guard in Malden for many years upon his retirement.

Before his passing, Bob celebrated 44 years of sobriety. He cherished the relationships he made with others and found meaning helping them along their journey with sobriety one day at a time. Bob was the light in the lives of the people he spent time with. His memory will be carried on by those around him as a loving husband, father, and friend.

Bob is survived by his daughter Ellen Claveau and her husband Gerard, his granddaughter Carolyn Corcoran and her husband Patrick, his granddaughter Samantha Claveau, his brother James Dykeman and his wife Rose, his sister Eileen Hivner and her husband John, and 9 nieces and nephews.

Bob is predeceased by his wife Jane F. Dykeman (MacKaracher) and his brother John "Jacky" Dykeman.
